AI Tools Policy

The legal regulation of AI utilization within the publication is carried out in strict accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Academic Integrity” (which entered into force on February 1, 2026), as well as the international standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

In accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation and international publishing standards:

1. For Authors (Manuscript Submission)

  • AI is Not Recognized as an Author: Generative artificial intelligence tools lack legal personality, cannot bear legal responsibility for the content of the work, and cannot declare the absence of any conflict of interest. Designating AI as a co-author of a scientific article is strictly prohibited in accordance with the official position of COPE.
  • Restrictions on Use: The use of AI and AI-assisted technologies for the analysis and interpretation of primary experimental data, writing the core text of the article, and formulating scientific assertions, conclusions, or practical recommendations is categorically prohibited. The undeclared use of AI is classified as a violation of academic integrity.
  • Permitted Use: The use of AI is allowed exclusively as an auxiliary tool for technical text editing (improving literary quality, correcting grammar and stylistics of academic English or Ukrainian) or optimizing auxiliary software code for statistical processing.
  • Mandatory Declaration (AI Declaration): In the event of AI utilization during the stage of manuscript preparation (even solely for linguistic or stylistic editing) or when creating specific graphical objects, authors are required to include a separate statement (“Declaration of AI Use”) at the end of the manuscript, immediately preceding the references. The declaration must clearly state the name of the software tool, its version, and the specific purpose of its application.

2. For Reviewers and Editors (Manuscript Evaluation)

  • Strict Prohibition on Generating Reviews: Reviewers are categorically prohibited from using generative AI tools to analyze manuscripts, evaluate their scientific quality, or automatically generate texts for reviews and comments.
  • Data Confidentiality Protection: In accordance with COPE confidentiality requirements, uploading the full text or fragments of an unpublished manuscript currently under consideration into third-party AI systems constitutes a gross violation of confidentiality and the authors' intellectual property, as it leads to the uncontrolled leakage of data onto the network.
