Abstract

The National Centre of Plant Genetic Resources of the Plant Production Institute nd. a V. Ya. Yuryev of NAAS has a basic pea collection comprising 2634 samples from 75 countries.  Pea genetic collection of 600 samples was formed as a result of studying the collection samples over the period of 1993-2013. The collection is based on field and laboratory studies on identification of genes of valuable economic and breeding features by morphological description and phenological observations. The collection is based on the following features: phenological (maturity group) and morphological ones (carriers of economic value and markers [presence of anthocyanin pigmentation and green color intensity of plants, growth type, internode length, presence of stem fasciation, leaf type, stipule type, presence of waxy coating, the number of flowers on the anthophore, flower size, corolla color, underripe bean color, degree of bean curvature, seed coat coloration, seed and starch granule shapes, hilum color, shedding resistance]) - in total 22 features by 99 levels of their expression. The standard carriers of genes determining a specific level of feature expression were identified. The pea genetic collection reflects genetic polymorphism of Pisum sativum L. species and represents a significant value for research and education. Using samples of the national collection with the identified genes will improve the breeding efficiency of varieties for traditional (grain, grain and green mass) and specific (vegetable, technical) areas of usage.
